TAGS:eee pc asus windows xp acer one installation usb drive  First of all, I hope you'll excuse me for my poor English. I’m tryin’ to improve it. Please let me know about my mistakes.

In this post I’ll explain how to install Windows Xp on a subnotebook such the Asus EEEPC or the Acer One.

I’ve tried this procedure on my EEEPC 701 and it has worked fine.

The procedure should work also for all the notebooks that have an USB device startup option in the BIOS.

To read the full article follow the “leggi l’intero articolo” link below. Or click here

Your first task is to get the things you’ll need to install Xp on your notebook:. Here’s the list:

- A copy of Windows Xp professional, at least service pack 2. You can use an ISO too but I suggest you not to use an ISO modified with software like nlite… but is up to you. You can improve performance and save space after you've done with the installation.

- The usb_multiboot_10.zip software, downloadable from here

- An USB pen drive (better if it’s not bigger than 2Gb).
Once you have those things you'll be ready to begin.

First part: let's prepare the environment.

Make a new directory everywhere you want, I suggest you to make it directly in C:\.
I called it "winxp_pro".
Copy the entire content of the Windows Xp Disk in the new directory.
When finished copying, extract the archive usb_multiboot_10.zip in a new directory and double-click on the usb_multiboot_10.cmd file.
In the picture below is at the end of the list.

The first view you'll get is a black command window. Press any key to continue.

Second part: USB drive preparation.

Here's the window from where you can format your USB drive.

I’ve personally tried the PeToUsb option and it has worked fine, so I suggest you to choose that one.
So press "P" on keyboard and then Enter to start PeToUsb.

Set the options like those in the picture below and you should be fine.

Once you did it, press the start button at the bottom of the window and continue until your pen drive will be formatted.
Close the PeToUSB window and go back to the USB_multiboot_10 black window.
The content in this window has changed and it should be look like the following picture.

Now you have to declare where the software can found the Xp source (the directory you’ve copied the full disk before) and where those files are to be copied (the pen drive).
Press the ”1” key on the keyboard and then Enter.
In the pop-up that should have appeared, find the directory where you copied the Windows Xp Disc. Press ”ok ” and continue.
A new popup will appear, with an ” unattended install” message on it.
Here you can insert some information to speed up the XP installation process (i.e.: serial key, user name).
You can start editing those fields by pressing ” yes”, or avoid this part by pressing the last option given (I’m sorry but I don’t have the English version and I don’t know exactly which message you get from any window… I’m just translating… ok trying to translate… the guide).

Afther that you’ll see the black dos window again, press the ”2” key on the keyboard and then Enter again.
In the popup you have to find the usb drive. When you’ve found it, continue by pressing the ”ok ” button.
Now the final task. Press the ”3” key on the keyboard and then Enter to start the copy of files from the XP CD to the USB drive. Keep on pressing “yes” or “continue” until the end of the process, when you’ll get (I hope) a successful message.

Third part: install the OS on your notebook.
Yes, You’ve almost done !
From this point all the informations will be about the ASUS EEE PC 701 4G. If you have another subnotebook like the Acer One don’t worry. Just get some information on how you can get a bootable devices list at the startup.

Plug the USB drive in your notebook and power it on. When you’ll see the grey picture with the eeepc logo press ” esc”.
From the menu select the USB drive and press Enter to start booting from the device.
Very early you’ll get another menu where you have to choose between the installation steps. The default is the second option but now you’ll have to choose the first one. Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to light the 1. option and press Enter.
You’ll be introduced in the classic Windows Xp installation utility. Follow all the instructions, format the SSD drive (the 4Gb one) and continue.
After the copy of the Windows Xp installation files your system will reboot.
Remember to press esc at the startup to continue booting from the USB drive.
This time select the default choice (2. And 3.) and press Enter to go through the installation and configuration on your new windows Xp. After completed this process reboot the pc and, again, press esc and select once more the default option given…
…and you’ve done !
Remove the USB drive, reboot your pc and have fun with your subnotebook.

Thank you for reading and sorry for the poor English and the bad grammar... try to transalte something in italian and you could tell me how hard it can be :)
Bye !
